Donald McKinley Christenson, 83, of Janesville died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center. He was born July 18, 1931 in Walworth, WI, the son of Lester and Ida Mae (Broome) Christenson. He graduated from Janesville high School in 1950. He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Donald married Barbara Louise Shannon on June 26, 1954. He was employed by Janesville Auto Transport Company for 40 years working in various locations including Janesville, Marchester, IA, Anoka, MN, Council Bluffs, IA and Chicago, IL. Following retirement, he and his wife wintered in Casa Grande, AZ where he enjoyed 4 wheeling the desert, spending time in the sun and going to casinos. They returned to Janesville to spend summers. Donald also enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, swimming and football, especially watching the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals. He liked feeding the wild animals in his back yard and in earlier times enjoyed camping, exploring state and national parks and playing golf.
Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara, his children, Stanley Christenson (Patricia) of Janesville, Stuart Christenson (Cathy) of Las Vegas, NV, Sandra Wauchop and Susan Christenson both of Janesville, Steven Christenson (Cathy) of Valparaiso, IN , his siblings, Peter Christenson of Phoenix, AZ, Gerald Christenson (Gloria) of Mukwonago, WI, 19 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family members in Wisconsin and Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sharon Christenson, infant son, Scott Christenson and siblings, Janet Christenson, Joanne Christenson, Phyllis Rastall, Barbara Viney, David Christenson and Bruce Christenson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1810 Kellogg Avenue, Janesville. Pastor Will Jewson will officiate. The family will meet friends at a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service in the church’s fellowship hall. Henke-Clarson Funeral Home assisted the family.
